This publication provides a comprehensive list of product names, item numbers, tariff rates (basic, agreement, preferential, and provisional), and units of handling that must be recorded for classifying goods in import declarations. Notes also indicate the legal regulations applicable to each item.
In Japan, all imported goods are classified and taxed in accordance with the contents of this publication. The appendices include a wide range of essential information for customs procedures, such as application tables showing at a glance the types of tariffs (e.g., preferential rates) applied to products from different countries, currently enforced special tariffs, as well as EPA tariff data tables covering CPTPP, the Japan–EU EPA, RCEP, and other agreements.

This publication reorganizes trade statistics based on the 9-digit HS code into summary classifications (prepared with reference to the import/export statistical item table based on HS codes, SITC classifications, the Japan Standard Industrial Classification, and others). It enables a multifaceted understanding of Japan’s trade trends from various perspectives.

The main statistical tables include total export/import values, regional and country-specific trade values, itemized export/import data, and trade indices, each presented in time series by year, quarter, and month. The January issue also features the item classification reference table for that year.

In addition, the Japan Tariff Association provides an Online Foreign Trade Statistics Service, where the web edition of the Foreign Trade Statistics is available on its website.
